If you are reading this message, you are not blind! You might be legally blind, but that's not the same thing. You can do something and the Ocutech is a very important tool. For many years I walked to and from work every day, rain or shine, hot or cold. I walked almost everywhere I had to or wanted to go. If my family and friends did not come to see me, I just did not get to see them.
The Ocutech changed all that. Imagine how good it feels to leave work, get into my sporty truck and drive home when it is 20 degrees below zero. I no longer have to carry groceries home in the pouring rain. When my folks needed help with everything elders need, the Ocutech made it possible for me to help them. And before I retired, I was asked if I could also help out some other elders in the community. And that is what I am doing now.
I was very fortunate to find the doctor I have for my low vision. It took work; calling agencies and being referred to one then another. But connecting to a low vision specialist was more 'worth-it’ then you can imagine. I was 55-56 before I could drive. Learning to use it was not always easy. I appreciate driving more than the average person. I walked enough in the snow and rain. My world has expanded beyond from where I can walk to and from and I can help others too. My father raised me to only be inconvenienced not disabled. The Ocutech allowed me to keep working and now to help others. I hope it can help you too.
