The relationship between commitment and doubt is by no
means an antagonistic one. Commitment is healthiest
when it is not without doubt but in spite of doubt.

Bioptic Drivers with More Potential Change
Another category of concern is a patient whose vision may change more quickly such as individuals with wet macular degeneration. They can have sudden changes in their vision. Patients with active macular degeneration would usually not be considered stable enough to be placed in a program for bioptic driving. However, with modern treatments today such as the Anti-VEGF injections, some of these patients can reach stability over time. Based on the examination by their retinal specialist and low vision specialist, it can be determined if and when they are stable enough to proceed. If these patients can reach a limited restricted licence level (20/80 in Indiana), this may be a much better option.
When bioptics are prescribed in Indiana, the patient must demonstrate stable vision for three months before licensure can be considered.
